Expert review of Can Climent Platillos
An innovative, contemporary take on tapas in this fun little restaurant in medieval Begur.
I first chanced upon this little place as it’s immediately opposite the Hotel Rosa and the streets are so narrow round here, if you come out of the hotel, put one foot forward, you’re almost in the restaurant. It was a great little find.
Food and drink:
The chef here has made a name for himself with his new take on the tapas experience. You can either sit at the bar or one of the small tables and the idea is that, like tapas, you order several dishes or platillos – these are little dishes to share but the portions are slightly bigger than you’d normally expect. Two of the dishes I particularly like are hake in tempura batter with tartar sauce and cockles with kaffir lime leaves and citronella oil (it's a really unusual, exotic and aromatic twist on classic cockles). There’s an emphasis on fish but they also do mini hamburgers and various foie gras dishes.
Ambience:
It's a small, neighbourhood restaurant with no more than a handful of tables and a small bar.
Service:
Occasionally the service is a bit hurried but in a bustling, not unpleasant way and friendly.
Location:
It's up one of the sloping cobbled streets leading up from the main plaza in the old town in Begur.
Price advice:
Platillos cost around 6-10 euros each.
