Expert review of Moeders
The name of this quaint and cosy Jordaan restaurant translates as "mothers" - and pretty every inch of wallspace is covered with photos of - you've guessed it - mothers.
Traditional Dutch dishes, such as hotchpotch - a frankfurter, meatball, bacon, mash, sauerkraut and gravy - and sudderviees (stewed beef) are very much the order of the day. The food is filling, and the portions vast - you'll struggle to make it through three courses. If you reach pudding, go for the home-made Dutch cookie flavoured ice-cream.
Homespun. When the restaurant opened back in 1990, the owner asked guests to bring their own cutlery, glasses and crockery - hence the mismatched mishmash that tables are laid with.
Friendly, attentive.
The far side of the Jordaan from the city centre.
Three-course menus from 26 euros. A combination of Dutch main course dishes costs 19 euros.
