Expert review of La Perla
No doubt about it: this modest Jordaan set-up serves the best pizzas in Amsterdam.
La Perla is basically a takeaway, with very rudimentary eat-in options. But if your tummy is rumbling for a fabulous pizza, don't let that put you off coming.
Food and drink:
All ingredients are imported from Italy, including top-quality mozzarella from Naples. The pizzas are cooked just as they should be, in a wood-fuelled, brick oven, and are delicious, with a crispy, thin base. As well as classic options, you can have your pizza topped with roasted pig, organic goat's cheese, or Nduja, a spicy Calabrian salami. You can wash down your choice with Italian wines, beers or sparkling mineral water.
Ambience:
If you want to eat in, there are stools in the picture windows, a communal table in a side room (next to a pile of chopped wood for the pizza oven), and a couple of benches outside.

Friendly.
Location:
On the corner of a lovely Jordaan back street that is packed with other inviting cafés and restaurants.
Price advice:
A margherita pizza costs 8.50 euros. More elaborate ones, such as with goat's cheese or roasted pig, cost over 13 euros (so are not cheap).
