Expert review of Nou Manolin
Nou Manolin is said to be one of the tapas bars in Spain, and Ferrán Adrià, of famed El Bulli, and once voted the best chef in the world, agrees. Begun as a simple restaurant connected to the world of bullfighting, and housed in the childhood home of one of Alicante’s most famous sons, the writer Gabriel Miró, the restaurants three floors, on whose walls hang the works of many famous and popular artists, have become a Mecca for gastronomes world-wide.
With its roots firmly set in the traditional cuisine of the region, the menu is based more on top quality produce than trying to be too inventive. It’s almost impossible to choose a favourite dish, or even one that typifies the restaurant, but my cod with lobster, gently cooked almost as you would scrambled eggs was superb, and if you like sweetbreads you need to try the mollejas con ajos tiernos. The truth is, though, that whatever you order will be excellent.
Business-like but comfortable.
Excellent, very professional.
A few minutes walk from the Cathedral and the promenade.
VAT isn’t included, which can add a hefty chunk to the bill.
