Why go to Sliema?

Rooms, restaurants and rock n’roll (well, pop really)

Sliema, along with neighbouring Saint Julian's and Paceville, accounts for most of the upmarket tourist accommodation in Malta as well as being home to many restaurants - some with delightful sea views - and bars. Paceville is home to almost all Malta’s nightclubs outside the big hotels.

Views of Valletta

Some of the best views of the Valletta bastions are from the Sliema seafront on the other side of Marsamxett Harbour - they are especially good at night.

English Malta

Sliema is not just an area - it’s a type. The ‘Slimiz’ are well-educated, cosmopolitan professionals who speak English - sometimes even at home. This is where you will hear people start a sentence in Maltese and finish it in English (or vice versa).

Summer swimming

In summer, this rocky shoreline - especially along Tower Road - becomes a beach. The Maltese love to swim and snorkel here, straight into the clear deep water.

… and strolling

On summer evenings you will find whole Maltese families promenading along the Tower Road seafront as the heat of the day eases. This is the place to see and be seen.

Shopping

Sliema is Malta’s primary shopping area with all the usual European fashion stores plus independents as well. It's like London's Oxford Street and Bond Street rolled into one.

Boat trips

The Sliema ferry travels the five minutes across the harbour to Valletta and, from the same dock, tourist boats depart for excellent tours of the two harbours, plus day cruises and trips to Malta’s top swimming spot, The Blue Lagoon in Comino.
