What you need to know about car hire
Although you don’t need a car to get around Berlin, your own transport is useful if you want to have a look at the countryside around the city, or if you are planning to tour around other parts of the country.
Traffic in Berlin has increased in the last few years. The city can grow congested at peak times (7-9am, 4-7pm) but it's generally less crowded than other European cities due to a lower population. Like most cities, parking can be a problem in busy areas and paid metres are increasingly common.

Hiring a car in the city
Most major car rental companies are represented in Berlin, including Europcar (www.europcar.com), Hertz (www.hertz.com), Sixt (www.sixt.com) and Avis (www.avis.com). To rent a car you must show a full national driver's licence and be over 21-years-old, although some companies may make exceptions. Cars can be either rented per day or per week and third party insurance is generally included in the price.
