Hiring a car in Hong Kong

If you want your own wheels, both Hertz and Avis operate here. Hertz (www.hertz.com) maintains offices at Kowloon (2920 2323) and Hong Kong (2525 1313) stations. Avis (www.avis.com.hk) is located at the Hopewell Centre in Wan Chai (2882 2927) and Peninsula Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui (2890 6988). Rates start at about HK$800 per day.

Alternatively, the larger hotels operate their own limousine fleets, and other hotels will have somebody on call with a motor at his or her disposal.

However, there are three good reasons not to hire a car in Hong Kong: public transport covers just about everywhere; parking is expensive; and Hong Kong drivers have all written their own version of the Highway Code.
