Read full expert reviewThe star of Brač has to be Zlatni Rat beach in the south-coast village of Bol. Most visitors to the island want to stay near this blissful pebble beach, known for its excellent water sports facilities, so tiny Bol does get very crowded in high season. Good alternative bases are Supetar, the island’s main ferry port, and Postira, a sleepy fishing village, both on the north coast and both connected to Bol by regular buses.
Things to consider before booking
- Prices drop in May and June, and September and October, when the island is less busy, but the sea is still warm enough to swim in.
- Prices increase significantly in peak season - July and August - especially in Bol.
- Breakfast is almost always included in the room rate.
- Tourist tax (7Kn, approx 1 euro, per person per day) is generally (but not always) included in the room rate.
- Stays of less than three days generally have a small surcharge.
While I was living in Split, I visited Brač many times. One of my best memories is hiking down from the gusty heights of Vidova Gora to Zlatni Rat beach on a sunny May afternoon and having my first swim of the season. I’ve stayed in several of the island’s top hotels, and written about it for various guidebooks, newspapers and websites. Out of the five Brač hotels listed here, I’ve tried to include a good cross-section to appeal to various types of visitors – couples, families with kids, and mature travellers – and a range of price brackets.
