A classy boutique hotel in the very heart of medieval Vienna.
I love this part of town for the peace and quiet of the immediate surroundings. Hotel owner, Robert Hollmann (actor, chef and theatre entrepreneur), has succeeded in creating a minimalist, elegantly styled “home-from-home” kind of hotel. The building, with an unnoticeable entrance - I walked straight by the first time I came here - doesn't have much appeal from the outside, but don’t judge a book by its cover. I was very impressed by what I found upstairs on the second floor.
Location:
Tucked away, near the city’s towering landmark St. Stephen’s Cathedral, it’s only a short walk from the nearby tube station Stephansplatz (U1, U3) to the very quiet street. The Innere Stadt is Vienna's most historic district, abounding in baroque churches, medieval treasures and roman ruins. Although the busiest streets are just a few minutes away, this area remains a peaceful oasis.
Bedrooms:
I love the way every guest’s personal welcome is chalked up on the board outside each room. The 25 air conditioned, clean-lined rooms come in three sizes and some are really huge. All the ceilings are high, floors are polished wood and the colour scheme is white, beige, light orange and warm browns throughout, with natural wood highlighted walls and soundproof windows. Rooms have extra large beds, bathrooms with bathtubs or showers that are either hidden behind doors or that stand wickedly proud. WiFi is free of charge in all of the rooms.

Public areas:
The vibrant coloured and spacious lobby has a piano, a cosy fire, well-stocked library and a computer terminal available. There's an outdoor terrace garden for sunny days and a games room providing a fun area for rainy ones. A small, eight-seater cinema allows old-time movie buffs private viewings of Austrian films, eg the classic spy thriller from the late 40's The Third Man - definitely part of the pleasure is the fresh popcorn to take in with you.
Eating and drinking:
The multifarious owner, a creative chef by profession, makes a point of offering only the very best in his hotel, therefore the organic breakfast spread is an enjoyable feast including a delicious daily “gourmet special” treat. For an unforgettable lunch or dinner I can personally recommend eating out at “Hollmann’s Salon”, just around the corner in a quiet and scenic courtyard. See my “Restaurant recommendations”.

A small spa includes a treadmill and sauna.
