Expert review of InterContinental Toronto
Firstly, I love this hotel for its penthouse-level lap pool and sunny outdoor terrace, but add to that a sleek vodka bar and hip "sky lounge" and I'm won over entirely. The service also wins points and the location is perfect for a short Toronto getaway or for a business stay.
Surrounded by big name boutiques and some of the city’s most must-see museums (the Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Loma, Bata Shoe Museum and the Gardiner Museum), the HI is well-connected, transit-wise. It’s just feet from St. George subway station, so you can be on Queen, at Bay and King or right down on Front Street within minutes.
Rooms are solidly good in a confident, upscale, luxurious kind of way, but won't blow you away. The bathroom has stately marble, beds have pillow-top mattresses, and rooms have bay windows that open out onto the streets of Yorkville.
The InterContinental has a trio of excellent eating and drinking venues. I'm torn as to whether I prefer the lower level Proof Vodka bar or the delicious summer haven of the Sky Lounge — where tapas and cocktails star from 4 p.m., May through till October. For more substantial fare, Signatures restaurant serves up breakfast and lunch seven days a week and lunch six days.
I just love that rooftop pool. I love most rooftop pools, but this one wins extra points for its sunny, south-facing outdoor terrace and herb garden. Lounging in a plush chair on the terrace, cocktail in hand, after a strenuous swim in the lap pool is a perfect way to relax.
Good: It's genuine, good-natured and helpful. Between all the staff members, there are 33 languages spoken here, which I find pretty impressive.

Wifi will set you back $11 to start with. If it's not vital, there are several Starbucks nearby with complimentary WiFi access. Parking is $25 if you park yourself or $35 if you opt for valet parking.
