Expert review of Villa Matejuska
In a quiet narrow cobbled alley in Varoš, one block back from the seafront, Villa Matejeuška is a traditional Dalmatian stone building with green wooden window shutters. Dating from the 19th century, it was renovated in 2003 to make a small family-run hotel with six simple but comfortable apartments and a rustic ground floor eatery.
In a quiet side street in pedestrian-only Varoš, just a two-minute walk from the seafront and five minutes from Split’s UNESCO-listed old town. All the city’s main cultural attractions are within a ten-minute walk, as are the airport bus and the ferry port.
There are six quiet and comfortable apartments, some, but not all, with exposed stonewalls, wooden beamed ceilings and a small terrace for sitting out. You also get air conditioning, flat-screen satellite TV, WiFi (computer available at reception), bathroom and a small kitchenette.

Breakfast is served in the cosy ground floor Konoba Matejuška, with exposed stonewalls and wooden beamed ceiling. Typical Dalmatian dishes, with an emphasis on seafood, are also served here at lunch and dinner.
Breakfast is basic but plentiful, with fresh bread, butter and jam, and platters of cheese and cold meats.
None, but just a five-minute walk uphill you’ll arrive at Marjan, a verdant pine-scented peninsular crisscrossed by footpaths, affording fantastic views over the old town and down onto the sea.
Very friendly, cheerful and hospitable staff.
