Expert review of Radisson Blu Resort
When I last visited this hotel in September 2010, it had only been open for a month following renovation – it was sparkling new and sleek, but still not fully operational. Although a little far from the old town, it offers luxurious extras such as a palm-lined outdoor pool and a luxurious spa. There are 189 rooms and suites, a restaurant terrace with fantastic sea views. A newly refurbished beach area with a bar and restaurant is opening in spring 2011.
Overlooking the sea and the island Brač, a 25-minute walk from Split old town, following a lovely seaside footpath past a big sailing marina and a beach. Alternatively a taxi takes five minutes and costs around 50Kn.
The 189 modern spacious rooms and suites all have comfy beds, floor-to-ceiling windows, free WiFi, flat-screen satellite TV, and fluffy bathrobes and slippers. All except the standard rooms have a bathtub, balcony and a much-welcome Nespresso coffee machine. The suites are vast and have private terraces. It’s well worth paying the extra for a sea view.
The Fig Leaf restaurant has a wonderful outdoor terrace with fine views over the sea – perfect on a warm summer evening. The Door bar has an open-air patio with chill-out music.
Once everything is up and running the Fig Leaf will be the main hotel restaurant. For now it's serving breakfast only - an impressive buffet spread that promises more good things to come. The Lobby Lounge is open all day for coffee, drinks and snacks, while the Door bar serves great cocktails (evenings only).
The spa is a real treat: a 25-metre indoor pool with jet stream, two hydrotherapy pools, saunas with sea views and an ultra-modern gym. Plus 12 treatments rooms employing highly-trained staff and luscious Anne Sémonin beauty products. The outdoor pool is lined by palms and white sun beds and overlooked by a poolside bar. As of spring 2011, the waterfront strip has a pebble beach and smart wooden deck, plus a bar and restaurant.
Polite, friendly and efficient staff.
People will probably start coming here specifically for the spa. It will also attract couples and business travellers in search of high-end accommodation outside the city centre.
