Expert review of Grand Hotel Aminta
Cool 1960s' style with spectacular views of Sorrento.
This is a very cool looking hotel, retaining its 1960s' styling in its wonderful curved central staircase, wide windows, and tiled flooring. The rooms have been updated and, while not exactly cutting-edge, are clean and comfortable. Aminta has the advantage of being close enough to the action if you want it, but being far enough away to allow you to really relax.
Location:
A little way out of Sorrento (there's a shuttle bus), Aminta is perched on a hillside, giving it lovely views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius.
Bedrooms:
Rooms are clean, comfortable and stylish, in a slightly old-fashioned way. Our bathroom had a wonderful view of a cultivated hillside covered in vines that you could look out onto. Little details, such as an iron, were appreciated by my well-turned-out travelling companion.

Public areas:
The curving central staircase is a thing of beauty in itself, enhanced by arched corridors, wide windows with views of the sea, and marble floors. The sun terraces are bordered by lavender bushes, bougainvillea and olive trees, and there's a bar pool-side where there is often entertainment, perhaps even a bit of dancing. There's an on-site restaurant too.
Eating and drinking:
A buffet breakfast is included in the room price but if you want something in particular, the kitchen will be happy to oblige.
Leisure facilities:
A beautiful pool.
Service:
Friendly staff are happy to make restaurant recommendations and bookings. The courtesy shuttle bus can zip you to down town Sorrento if you don't fancy the walk.
