Expert review of Quincy Hotel
One of the few all-inclusive hotels in Singapore, the Quincy is a unique studio boutique concept with a twist. This hotel is quirky with a capital Q, literally. Everything is branded Quincy ‘qool’ from guest messages in the elevator to the package deals offered on their website. The furnishings are modern and funky and there are iMacs in the reception.
Situated just behind Orchard Road, Singapore’s main shopping street is just a quick stroll down the hill, while the MRT station is five minutes away on foot. The airport is a 25-30 minute taxi ride. Mount Elizabeth Hospital is just next door.
All studio rooms face Orchard Road and have a king sized bed, with glass showers and cleverly concealed wardrobes. Molton Brown toiletries are an added bonus. For the tech geeks, there’s a direct USB/HDMI interface to the flat-screen TVs. The mini bar is free too.
The lobby and restaurant has modern furnishings with large floor to ceiling glass windows. Peanut shaped benches and bejewelled art pieces are scattered around the halls and be sure to watch out for the guest messages each day illuminated in the elevators.
The lobby restaurant and bar serves coffee, tea and fruits all day, as well as three inclusive meals. The meals are a mix of local dishes and Western staples. I did eat a lot at the restaurant when I stayed, out of sheer convenience, but you can get a much better standard of meal at the hawker stalls just down the road.
The glass-encased pool is cantilevered from the 12th floor, surrounded by constantly changing coloured LED lights. There’s also a small and modern gym overlooking Orchard Road.
This hotel aims for a more personal service with quirky guest announcements as well as personalised welcome letters. I was told some of the staff even do sketches of guests, though I didn’t dare ask for a caricature.
Budget conscious business travellers.
The room rate includes a limousine transfer service from the airport – with free WiFi access during the ride, all three meals at the hotel, high-speed Internet connections, all mini-bar amenities, and cocktails and drinks each evening as well as two items of laundry a day. I think this is great value. But in a city like Singapore, all-inclusive meals aren’t necessary because there are so many good affordable eating options just around the corner. Good package deals can be found at the weekend.
