Expert review of Marriott Hotel Singapore
The Marriott Hotel is known for its towering green pagoda sitting on Singapore’s most famous shopping street, Orchard Road. This hotel has 393 rooms, nine luxurious pool terrace rooms and 21 suites.
The Marriott is situated right on top of Orchard Road MRT station and if there’s a heavy downpour, as is usually the case in tropical Singapore, you can easily access the nearby shops through a series of underground and undercover walkways.
Due to the octagonal pagoda shape to this hotel, there are many different views from the rooms in the tower. Most rooms have a work desk and are clean and up to the usual Marriott standard. The poolside suites are by far the best in the hotel, they have a resort-like feel and are furnished with Bvlgari toiletries.
The lobby is a serene retreat away from the bustle of busy Orchard Road, with cake shops and cafes to tempt you as you enter. The Executive Lounge has a spectacular view of the city and is a usually very busy in the evenings.
There are five dining outlets in total in the Marriott Hotel. The Pool Grill restaurant is great for casual dining. Crossroads Café, situated right on the corner of Orchard Road, is a favourite for lunch, cocktails and people watching (but usually filled with gaping tourists).
The pool is an oasis in the city, located on the fifth floor. The bar next to the pool is a good way see out the day. There’s also a reasonable sized gym and spa as well as a basketball court.
I always find the staff in Asia to be incredibly polite and the Marriott was no exception. The staff in the gym were extremely helpful showing me the various machines, while the waiters at the pool-side grill were efficient and courteous.
Business travellers and shopaholic tourists.
On the whole, this hotel is quite expensive, but you are paying for the location. Make sure you check the Simon Seeks website for deals. High speed WiFi will cost you $41.15 a day, while standard speed is just $26.75. The breakfast buffet is expensive too at $44.73++ so make sure it's included in your room rate.
