Best for Value for money - Expert review of Hotel Alminar
Opened in March 2005, this lovingly-restored building (previously the home of the famous Forondo silk shawls) was converted into a small 12-room boutique hotel, one of the first to open in Seville, with the focus on comfort and personal service.
The hotel is in a terrific location on a quiet pedestrian street, and within five minutes of the Cathedral and Alcázar Palace, the Barrio Santa Cruz, and also the main shopping area.
There are single, standard double and superior double rooms available; all with complete bathrooms, satellite TV, telephone, free WiFi and minibar. Two of the superior rooms have their own small terraces with views of the Giralda Tower. Some rooms can have an extra bed brought in to make it a triple. Decor is simple, clean and modern. A nice touch - honeymooners are given a free bottle of cava upon arrival.
Two small common rooms are just off the reception area as you walk in. I am told that as it is a small building they preferred to use the available space on the rooms.
Free hot and cold drinks are available all day. There's no bar or restaurant, but there are plenty of excellent eating choices very close to the hotel.
Extremely helpful and friendly English-speaking staff. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home.
Couples and solo travellers who are keen on good price and location and don't mind doing without in-house catering, leisure facilities or large comfortable common areas.
A cold buffet breakfast for 6 euros is served either in your room or in the common room next to the reception area, but I think for that price you'd be better off stepping outside and having something more satisfying at any of the nearby bars serving breakfast.
