Expert review of Hotel Alcantara
You could walk past this hotel a hundred times and not even know it was there, which is in fact what I did until someone pointed it out to me as a great place to stay. You walk through the old coach entrance to reception and find a simple no-frills hotel that does just what it "says on the tin". It's also just next door to the Casa de La Memoria, which is one of the better flamenco venues in town.
Located in a quiet pedestrianised street in Barrio Santa Cruz, with some of the best tapas bars and restaurants just a stone's throw away. All the attractions and the main shopping area can also be reached with a short five-minute walk.
There are 21 rooms: singles, double rooms with either double or twin beds, and one special large room that can be a quadruple. Décor is simple and bathrooms are basic, but the rooms are quiet and clean with windows that face onto the indoor patio, which allow for a lot of light.

The small lounge area in front of reception is a bit spartan, but you can take advantage of the free WiFi there (sometimes the rooms also get access, but it's very hit and miss).
All reception staff speak English and are genuinely friendly and helpful.

Budget-minded travellers.
A continental breakfast is available for 5 euros, but you're better off heading over to Santa Maria la Blanca and having breakfast on one of the terraces there.
