Sophisticated boutique hotel within easy reach of beaches, villages and golf courses.
It may be in a tiny village but it still feels like a country getaway, albeit a super-stylish one. The Regencós takes the Catalan idea of the casa rural or country house and updates it for urban sophisticates. With only seven rooms (including one Suite) and converted from two 18th-century farmhouses joined together, we’re talking beamed, vaulted ceilings, complimentary laptop use in every room and tranquil luxury.
Location:
Tucked away in the sleepy village of Regencós. The lovely Medieval hilltop town of Begur is only a short drive away, as are some of the Costa Brava’s most gorgeous beaches and golf courses.
Bedrooms:
Natural light floods all the rooms which have a rustic but stylish zen simplicity – white rough stone walls, contemporary four-poster beds, beamed ceilings and the odd antique dotted around for good measure. Bath products come in retro-style stainless-steel canister pumps. I also love the fact that all the rooms have a laptop waiting for you to use so that you don’t have to lug yours away with you on holiday. There are Bang and Olufsen TVs with DVD and CD players (as well as a vast selection of CDs for your listening pleasure.) Rooms look out onto the quiet, narrow streets below, but the rooms on the first floor have slightly better views, taking in the surrounding countryside. The ‘Double Junior’ has a hydro-massage shower instead of a bath. All have air-con, central heating, mini-bar and safe.

Public areas:
There’s a sitting room area on the first floor with comfy sofas and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the plaza below.
Eating and drinking:
There’s a buffet breakfast served in the swish restaurant – a ‘destination’ restaurant in its own right (see separate review by clicking on Hotel del Teatre) - or on the terrace in the summer. Otherwise, you can have continental breakfast served in your room.
Leisure facilities:
A covered pool converted from part of an old roof-making factory, and a garden with sun loungers. Also mountain bikes with GPS are available for hire.
Service:
Friendly but discreet, the staff can arrange most things for you from babysitting, car wash and massages, to car, boat and bicycle hire, picnic baskets, walking and sports trips.

Who stays there:
Mostly couples - with a high proportion of Barcelonans weekending or taking a getaway holiday.
Pros:
If you want to hole up in a super-stylish chic country hideaway with state-of-the-art creature comforts, you couldn’t do much better.
A ‘destination’ restaurant literally on your doorstep
Cons:
In the garden/sun-lounger area by the pool, you can hear a slight distant rumble from the main road in the distance.
If you like your country style ragged round the edges and a bit boho, then you might possibly find this a tiny bit too minimal.
