Expert review of Hôtel Mansart
The Mansart is a great find if you're after traditional hotel style and courteous service but at a fraction of the price of its illustrious neighbour, the Ritz. Named after the architect who designed the adjacent place Vendôme and the Château de Versailles, geometrical murals in the lobby were inspired by 17th-century formal gardens.
Next to the Ritz and the jewellery stores of place Vendôme but much less expensive. Palais Garnier opera house and the big department stores are a short walk in one direction, Musée du Louvre in another, with rue St-Honoré's fashion temptations on the way.
The spacious bedrooms furnished with historic oil paintings, old prints and polished antique furniture really give you the impression of living in aristocratic, pre-Revolutionary Paris. Most are high-ceilinged, with tall windows and marble fireplaces and, although the entrance is on a side street, some even have views over place Vendôme itself.
Geometrical murals in the lobby were inspired by 17th-century formal gardens; corridors are agreeably broad. Sadly there's no lounge but there's a breakfast room in Second Empire style on the first floor, with rosewood chairs and stained glass.
Continental breakfast served in the genteelly elegant first-floor breakfast room.
Courteous, old-fashioned service.
International travellers, broad mix of nationalities and ages.
