Expert review of Hôtel Louvre Bons Enfants
Some small unassuming hotels get it just right and this is one of them. Hidden down a small side street, you are unlikely to discover it by chance, but it gives off a friendly vibe as soon as you walk inside. I like the cheerfully quirky decoration, taking a modern approach in a 17th-century building.
An ancient building on a tiny sidestreet tucked beside the Palais Royal with the Ministry of Culture just across the street. Great for strolling round the exclusive shops and peaceful gardens of Palais Royal or an art fix at Musée du Louvre.
Pale blue and red sounds odd but works well: typical of the quirky colour combinations and boho charm of the 23 bedrooms, which have comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. Some overlook a minuscule courtyard, go if possible for one on the street side. Ground floor standard no.100 can sleep three and has wheelchair access. no. 109 is a lovely superior double with little office area, separate loo, a jacuzzi bath, stylish minimalist fourposter and tall window swathed in heavy curtains.
Agreeable ground-floor lounge area with wood floors, red damask detailing, assorted mirrors and red chairs and sofas. Corridors are rather tortuous and the automatic lights slow to react but there is a lift.
Continental breakfast is served in a cheerful ground-floor room.
They have recently added a small fitness room (rowing and cycling machines and weights), which is rare in a small hotel. There is a computer in the lobby for use of hotel guests.
Basic hotel service without frills.
Young, casual international.
Pretty good value.
