Expert review of Hôtel Le Six
The Montparnasse hotel offering used to be rather staid, so Le Six is a welcome arrival with a look that is fresh and contemporary, mixing pared-back style with just a touch of glitz, and an emphasis on service and discrete comfort.
On a side street just off the lively boulevard du Montparnasse with its cinemas and classic brasseries and not far from the Jardins du Luxembourg.
The 27 bedrooms have oak floors and specially designed furnishings and suave leather desks. There are also four suites including an atmospheric attic penthouse.
An agreeable lobby with sculptural reception desk and gilded ceiling. Although there are plenty of places to drink nearby, the hotel has its own strikingly lit bar and a glazed courtyard atrium, where you can relax in velvet chairs under a chandelier that appears to have been concocted from old car headlights.
Breakfast is a ridiculous 22 euros – so look for deals with breakfast included. There's also a stylish bar.
You can be pampered in the beautiful Payot Spa in the basement. There's also a small gym.
Polite and efficient, if a little impersonal.
Only opened in 2009 but so far drawing a mix of leisure and business travellers, including lots of Spanish.
