Expert review of Hôtel de Lutèce
The Ile St-Louis is a bit like a 17th-century time capsule and this hotel in a fine period building on the island's main thoroughfare has kept a sense of Louis XIII period style, while updating with discrete comfort (air conditioning, lift). The beautiful panelled salon and polite individualised welcome are all part of the civilised mood. Note that the same owners also run the Hôtel des Deux Iles, a couple of doors away, at no.59.
Plum on the main street of the Ile St-Louis, it's perfect for those who love the island's historic atmosphere – and the possibility of shopping on Sunday – and very central, with the Marais and Latin Quarter on either side of the river.
Exposed beams in many rooms, tall windows and high ceilings remind that you are in a historic building. The decoration is functional yet pretty with lloyd loom chairs and sparkling modern bathrooms, which for once have plenty of space to arrange your things. The most pleasant rooms overlook the street. Non smoking.
