Expert review of Crosby Street Hotel
This stylish New York arrival is actually the brainchild of London hoteliers Kit and Tim Kemp who are behind excellent UK properties like the Covent Garden, Charlotte Street, and the Haymarket, some of my favorite hotels in the world. The fame of the properties at home explains why there were so many British guests when I checked in a few months back and now the Crosby Street is quickly gaining American fans too. The combo of location, style and warm service makes it one of New York's new bests.

If I could live anywhere in New York it would be in this area of Soho. I love that it is just east of Broadway and out of the fray but a stone's throw to some of my favorite Manhattan shopping and favorite restaurants like Balthazar. The N/R Prince Street subway stop is around the corner and the F and 6 are just a few minutes walk away.
I think that the owners' stylish and eclectic English design works very nicely in SoHo with an eccentric but cozy mix of custom furnishings, bright fabrics and art work made modern by the huge warehouse windows in each room and 21st century amenities like free wifi, one switch lighting, and flatscreen televisions. The design might be a bit busy for some sensibilities but I think the one of a kind rooms are a welcome relief to the white on white minimal style that's become the norm. Book a room on the 8th floor or higher for the property’s best views. And lovely views they are.

The lobby area itself doesn't have a lot of places to sit but the guest-only drawing room is the perfect spot for afternoon tea with friends and quiet business meetings.
I had high hopes for the buzzy restaurant but unfortunately the food and service needs to improve to be on par with the rest of the hotel.
Fun screening room and a gym.
For the most part lovely, warm and professional. A real draw. But they need to deal with the service at the restaurant where it is slow and ineffectual.

From £400 and they are almost always full so don't really run specials.
