In the heart of Times Square, a grown-up take on the hostel idea.
I first checked into the QT a few years back when it was unveiled as an upscale “hostel for grown-ups” in the heart of Times Square; I was quite impressed by the place, especially for fun amenities like a lobby swimming pool and a 24-hour kiosk with snacks and New York essentials. It has been renamed Grace and is now owned by Spanish company Room Mate, which has tweaked the formula somewhat but preserved the fun and affordable approach.
Location:
Right off Times Square and Broadway this section of 45th Street feels remarkably calm when compared to the chaos of Times Square around the corner.
Bedrooms:
Many of the rooms have multiple platform bunk beds (nice sizeable ones that are appropriate for families and groups of friends traveling together) and amenities like a 20 inch flatscreen TV, DVD player and large showers (they don’t have bathtubs). There are also a number of small double rooms that are good options for couples traveling solo.

Public areas:
The hotel’s centerpiece, a swimming pool in the lobby with a swim up bar, is a really novel and fun touch but it becomes a Euro hipster party scene most nights. For some guests that’s a draw (so pack your best bikini) while others quickly scuttle past to their rooms.
Eating and drinking:
Excellent breakfasts are included in the price.
Service:
Staff are very friendly and helpful, and more even since the hotel changed management companies.
