Expert review of Gershwin Hotel
It's hard to believe you can even find a room for this price in New York City, especially one around the corner from Fifth Avenue and the Empire State Building. But don't come expecting the Four Seasons, this is a cheerful spot but not luxurious.
On East 27th Street just steps from Fifth Avenue, this neighborhood of Manhattan is mostly a business district for fashion, flowers and the like. Nonetheless it's a wonderful address in terms of its quick access to both downtown and uptown, not to mention the Empire State Building, one of the city's most beautiful landmarks in my opinion.
Recently-updated rooms are cheap and cheerful with bright artwork on the walls. The beds are hard but the rooms are always quite clean.

Welcoming and cheerful like the rest of the property. I like the library space for working.
The Birch cafe is a nice spot for coffee and light meals.
The staff, including the friendly maid service, are helpful and nice - giving the place less of a budget hostel feel.
