Friendly hotel in an amazing location in Nerja, offering sweeping views of the beach.
You couldn't ask for a better location. Hotel Paraiso del Mar sits high on a cliff, with its own private path down to one of Nerja's best beaches. Relax by the garden pool and enjoy some of the Costa del Sol's most inspirational views looking east towards the province of Granada, where the Sierra Nevada literally drops into the sea. Built by a doctor in the 1960s, it is now run by the cultured, ever-friendly Spanish charmer, Enrique Caro Benal.
Location:
In the heart of Nerja, sandwiched between the town's parador and just five minutes' walk to the Balcón de Europa.
Bedrooms:
The 17 rooms are comfortable although a bit on the chintzy side for me - the bubblegum pink and coral décor at times is a little overbearing. But that said, they are mostly of a decent size and each has a Jacuzzi bath, air-conditioning and under-floor heating, for those that feel the cold in winter. Some of them have big terraces with good sea views - bag yourself one of these. There are seven suites.

Public areas:
The grounds are, without a doubt, the best part of the hotel. They drop down about six levels and are full of palm trees from all over the world, as well as flushes of colour from jasmine, plumbago and bougainvillea. There are even banana trees, fitting for the area, which is said to have one of Europe's best climates. Oh, and there is a very convenient underground car park.
Eating and drinking:
Only breakfast, which is included in the price. No other meals are available.
Leisure facilities:
There is a perfectly nice pool, if a little small, with fabulous views up the coast, and a sauna and hot tub below the hotel.
Service:
Staff are friendly, in particular owner Enrique, who is a mine of local information and speaks perfect English.

Price advice:
Room rates are average for the area, so really you're getting the views for free (as normally hotels with views like this charge a premium).
