Small in size but Miami Beach’s best bed and breakfast is a big hitter.
Whatever image a 10-bedroom bed and breakfast conjures up in your mind, think again. From poolside organic vegetarian breakfasts cooked to order, to immaculate rooms and an ambience more suited to a hotel with several stars, this little jewel punches way above its weight.
Location:
I was apprehensive heading into one of Miami Beach’s residential areas, several blocks back from the ocean, to find SoBe You. But the parking’s free, you don’t have to tangle with the traffic and you can walk to the beach in 10 minutes. As long as you’re not carrying too much stuff. Flamingo Park, one of the area’s nicest, is steps away.
Bedrooms:
SoBe You has three bedrooms in the main house. I particularly like the fabulous en-suite family room with a snook for two kids’ beds. The other seven, king rooms plus a one-bedroom suite, are in the pool house. All are pristinely decorated, with white Pima cotton linens, towels and robes, and have fridges and water filters.

Public areas:
The pool deck, although overlooked by neighbouring properties, is attractively set amid palm trees, and the owners have just planted some very attractive bamboo trees to help screen it. The 1930s main house has its own library of books, DVDs and magazines for guests’ use.
Eating and drinking:
There’s no standard breakfast buffet here, only wholesome, gourmet food prepared fresh and served on the pool deck. You might get multigrain walnut muffins one day, French toast and shirred eggs the next. The menu changes every day.
Leisure facilities:
Nothing on site other than the pool but you’ll get passes to the excellent Nikki Beach club http://www.nikkibeach.com/miami/ and discounts for a local gym. Massages can be arranged poolside or in your room.
Service:
Welcoming, and always quick with a good restaurant reservation or advice. Manager Lina keeps the place running like clockwork.
