Expert review of Crowne Plaza Hotel Manchester City Centre
The first thing that you notice as you approach the Crowne Plaza Manchester is the coloured glass in the windows – every standard room has a piece of orange, pink or yellow glazing to cast a glow across the room. The modernity of this design is mirrored inside - hot pinks, blacks and bright yellow flashes are throughout the hotel - and lines, including those on the carpets, are straight and sleek.
I love the thoughtful extras that this four-star hotel offers – sleep packs in every room with essential oils to aid a good night’s sleep, the option of borrowing straighteners from reception and a flatscreen TV in each room.
On the borders of two of Manchester’s most happening areas – the Northern Quarter and the Green Quarter - the hotel is ideal for those who want to embrace the fast pace of the city. It is just a short walk to The Printworks, Harvey Nichols and the MEN Arena and this is an exciting part of Manchester that has changed drastically over the last decade. The downside of the location is that there is a lot of redevelopment taking place so, in certain rooms, you run the risk of looking out over a building site.
All rooms have a separate bath and shower as standard and are minimally decorated in black and white with funky patterned throws and bright cushions – there is no chintz in this hotel. Standard rooms are just as stylish as their more expensive counterparts but if you want a guaranteed 8th floor view, access to the club lounge (with free internet access and food and drink), as well as added extras such as White Company toiletries, it is worth upgrading to a Club room. A Deluxe Club room gets you a room on the corner of the building allowing two views of the city.

Guests are greeted at a modern hot pink glossy reception desk in a large lobby that sets the modern feel of the hotel. Large black basket weave lights hang over pink and white sofas in the seating area next to the reception desk.
A bar and restaurant are to the side of the reception area offering regional produce from local suppliers.
There is a small but functional gym for hotel guests only. The hotel also offers a discounted rate at the nearby Virgin Active gym for guests after more facilities.
The staff are polite and helpful. The reception area can get busy at peak check-in times.

During the week young business people make the most of being on the doorstep of the Northern Quarter and visit the trendy bars and restaurants nearby. Weekend leisure guests love the hotel’s close proximity to the MEN Arena for concerts, as well as the nearby shopping and nightlife attractions.
Look out for great bed and breakfast deals during quiet summer weekends.
