Expert review of Vincci Soho
Sharp purples, pinks, reds and oranges perk up the interiors of the five 19th-century buildings which have been revamped to create a stylish contemporary space.
Just down the road from Plaza Santa Ana, this is nightlife-central, but you are only a few minutes’ walk from the Prado and other major museums. There are lots of restaurants and tapas bars in the neighbouring streets too, and it is a short walk to the shops around Puerta del Sol.
There are 140 standard rooms with crisp design, sumptuous fabrics and red lacquerwork and mosaic tiles in the bathrooms. Half of the 24 larger, executive rooms give views onto the street and have balconies, while the others offer views of a large inner courtyard. If you can’t live without Hermes toiletries, you’ll have to upgrade to a junior suite.
You can request a non-smoking room, and there are four rooms for guests with disabilities. Cots are available on request, and children under 12 stay free.

Smart lounge area and lobby, and a great outside space in the courtyard.
This is a hotel where you’ll want to hang out in the bar with a drink, and linger over gourmet tapas in the hip Prado18 restaurant, which is popular with non-guests in the evening and does some terrific gourmet tapas - which are also available from room service. There are plenty of tables in the courtyard too, so you can eat outside if you want to – and in summer you will want to.
Professional and helpful.

Fashionistas, tapas fans and people who don’t like walking too far or having to rely on public transport.
Executive rooms and junior suites are often not that much more than standard rooms, with good deals including breakfast, free parking or a welcome drink in the bar. Breakfast is a steep 17.40 euros if not included in your room rate. While WiFi is free in executive rooms and suites, there is a charge in standard rooms and public areas, although connection is free with a cable. Why make things so complicated?
