Designer chic in Madrid in a smart neighbourhood near the park.
The Art Gallery occupies an elegant, six-storey, late-19th-century building in an upmarket area. Design is contemporary, but without going berserk. The best boutiques and restaurants, antique shops, contemporary galleries and also the Retiro park are all within a five-minute-walk radius. With family rooms available, this is a good choice if you're travelling with children.
Location:
The hotel is on the corner of Jorge Juan and Lagasca streets which, let me tell you, is about as chic as it gets in Madrid.
Bedrooms:
There is a jazzy black and white vibe going on in the 61 rooms, with silvery fabrics and splashes of red. Superior High Tech rooms come with laptops, exercise bikes and hydromassage showers. If you’re travelling with kids, request a family room with bunk beds and a cot if you need it. Bathrooms have glass partitions rather than walls, which won’t suit everyone. There are adapted rooms for guests with limited mobility and allocated rooms for smokers. If you have a dog, the hotel will provide beds and food. There is some street noise, particularly at weekends, so ask for an interior room if that might bother you.

Public areas:
Stylish lobby area with curvy lamps and a sculpture of a cow, among other artworks. Don’t ask me why.
Eating and drinking:
The Malevich restaurant is elegant and laidback and serves a range of Mediterranean dishes.
Leisure facilities:
Bikes are available, which is really useful as the Retiro park is nearby.
Service:
Friendly and helpful.
