Expert review of Las Meninas
It's all elegance at Las Meninas, but at reasonable rates.
Named after Velazquez’s most famous painting, the hotel occupies a 19th-century building with six floors in the centre and is smart without being designed to within an inch of its life. Feel like a proper Madrilenian as you step out onto your little wrought-iron balcony to survey the scene in the street below.
The hotel won a TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice award in 2010 in the favourite European city hotels category.
Location:
On a side street right by the Teatro Real opera house and the Royal Palace, five minutes' walk from the Puerta del Sol with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from. Two minutes from Opera metro station.
Bedrooms:
There are 37 rooms, including junior suites on the upper floors, with some sleeping up to four people. Bathrooms are spacious and there are plasma televisions, with films supplied free. Although this is not a particularly noisy street, rooms at the back are quieter. There are allocated rooms for smokers and rooms suitable for guests with disabilities. Decor is in soothing neutrals with splashes of colour.

Breakfast is served in a spacious vaulted cellar. There is a bar but no restaurant.

Price advice:
A range of discounts is usually available, particularly if you book two rooms together or are using the AVE high-speed train. Rates are pretty good value for standard and location. WiFi is free in public areas, with a free cable internet connection in rooms.
