A smartly renovated aparthotel close to Holborn Underground station.
I find the idea of staying in an apartment rather than a hotel an appealing prospect. You invariably get more space for your money and life feels more relaxed. This very central aparthotel recently had an impressive top-to-toe makeover and its 192 contemporary design apartments are stylish and well-equipped.
Location:
High Holborn is a constantly busy thoroughfare that is quintessential London. The surrounding streets are packed with shops and offices with Holborn Underground station just a short walk away. Check in here and you'll be well placed for a trip to the theatre or opera, shopping in Covent Garden and a cultural high at the British Museum.
Bedrooms:
This six-storey former office block is mainly filled with roomy two-person Premier Studio apartments with kitchen facilities, air conditioning, free WiFi and shiny new bathrooms. There are also 40 one-bedroom apartments with a sofabed that sleep up to four and are a good option for families. The 18 Club Studios, sleeping two, offer a larger kitchen area and come with bathrobes, a welcome pack of fruit and drink, and a Continental buffet breakfast is included in the rate. Twin beds are available. Some apartments look onto High Holborn while those at the back and sides face quieter streets - although thanks to the double glazing I've never had any noise issues.

Public areas:
A generously-sized reception area leads into a stylish, parquet-floored lounge area with books, iMac computers and complimentary tea/coffee. Corridors have brown striped carpeting with doors and walls in complementary hues. The aparthotel also has a laundrette and underground car park (charges apply).
Eating and drinking:
Drinks and snacks are on sale at reception. A Continental breakfast is served in the lounge. If you want to use that sparkling new kitchen, there's a large Sainsbury's supermarket by Holborn station. If you don't, there's plenty of sandwich bars and restaurants in the vicinity.
Leisure facilities:
At the back of the building is a small, unstaffed gym exclusively for guests.
Service:
Reception is manned round the clock. The uniformed staff are friendly and can be reached by calling from the phone in your room. Apartments receive a light daily cleaning with further services depending on your length of stay.
