Expert review of Heywood House
Liverpool has no shortage of old banks in lovely buildings, and this one has been tastefully converted into a chic boutique hotel with a friendly outlook. The rooms aren't huge, but I like the way that each is different.
It's in the commercial district, but by no means isolated: several of the city’s see-and-be-seen restaurants are here and it’s close to the water, Cavern Quarter, shopping and James Street station. Bustling, so you’ll hear some noise.
Not huge, but with lots of character and pink crushed velvet. There’s a pretty Chinoiserie theme and everything’s good quality, with free wired internet in-room and WiFi down in reception. Room 305 has exposed beams, a sunken bed and a balcony, and on the Fenwick Street side i'm glad they've kept the lovely tall windows. Ask if you want a bath, as not all rooms have them.
There are just a few chairs at reception and use of the Noble House restaurant next door. The staircase is a lovely feature, but doesn’t quite count as a public area!
Next door’s Noble House restaurant and bar is connected to the hotel and offers room service and a contemporary breakfast menu in appealing surrounds. They’ll bring cocktails upstairs too.
The staff are smiley and knowledgeable, and responsive to guests’ needs.
Groups of friends and couples book on the third floor to snag adjoining rooms with balconies among the rooftops. It's popular with footie fans and businesspeople, and there’s a brisk wedding trade.
Check your rate as, depending on the package, they don't always include breakfast. A full English at The Noble house is £8.95.
