Expert review of Hotel Històric
With its 9th century stone walls, you can’t get much closer to Girona’s history than this. A family-run affair with eight rooms and seven apartments, I really like the way this hotel manages to feel contemporary and comfortable in a 21st century way, without losing its historical identity.
It’s also a big hit with cyclists who use it as a base for the nearby cycling routes.
Right in the heart of Girona’s Old Town, you’ve got the Cathedral, Jewish Quarter and Jewish Museum on your doorstep as well as the Arabic Baths. Girona’s great shops, restaurants and bars are also less than five minutes’ walk away.
All the rooms and apartments have modern furnishings and highly polished, marble floors. Some have original beamed ceilings and parts of the original exterior stone walls. The interior rooms are the quietest.
There are two cosy lounge areas on the ground floor. The vaulted, ancient stone walls are tastefully lit with iron-work lamps hand-made by the owner.
Breakfast is served downstairs on the ground floor.
WiFi is free on request and the hotel can arrange for you to have a sports massage in your room.
Helpful and, as you might expect for a hotel with a high amount of professional cyclist guests, there’s a special garage for your bikes.
Mainly couples and American and international cyclists (eg Lance Armstrong), as well as golfing enthusiasts.
The hotel also has small apartments which are very good value.
