A quiet boutique hotel near Nerja that oozes charm and tranquillity.
This intimate retreat lies in the hills just above the coast, on the edge of the Almijara Natural Park and yet just ten minutes from the beaches of Nerja. Run by Sara and her daughter Maria, the friendly, 12-room hotel is set in a delightfully rural location, surrounded by avocado, mango and orange trees. The grounds are well kept and the smell of jasmine and damas de la noche are sensually evocative.
Location:
Posada Morisca is in an unrivalled position sitting two kilometres above the authentic mountain village of Frigiliana. It's surrounded by avocado trees and backed by the peaks of the Almijara park and walks go right from the door.
Bedrooms:
The bedrooms are seductive, with recessed lighting, sumptuous cushions and a log-burning stove for the heart of winter. They are decorated in earthy hues and have Arabic-style ribbed ceilings. All have small, private terraces with a table and chairs and views towards the sea and the mountains. Most rooms have a bathtub. There is a minibar, quality hair products and, oh, a rocking chair!

Public areas:
The life of the hotel revolves around its stylish salon, filled with comfortable places to sit and an interesting range of fabrics and sculptures collected by Sara and her businessman husband José, who remains behind the scenes. I particularly liked taking breakfast on the sunny terrace overlooking Frigiliana with the shimmering sea in the distance.
Eating and drinking:
Breakfast is served in the main salon, but can be taken out onto the charming terrace with its views across to the Med. It is one of the best, healthiest spreads I have come across in Andalucia, and includes a stack of fresh croissants on the bar and some excellent muesli and fruit. You can have lunch and supper here, on the terrace, which is beautifully lit at night in the warmer months.
Leisure facilities:
Just off the salon you have the moderate size pool, which is a great place to top up the tan and enjoy the views at the same time.
Service:
Laid back and homely, so don't expect bells and whistles.

A huge mixture of northern Europeans and people who want to be close to the coast and beaches, but want the peace of the mountains.
