Best for Romance - Expert review of Witchery by the Castle
Proprietor James Thomson is a man who loves the good things in life and this is your chance to share his vision. The Witchery has seven suites which just ooze decadence and drama as the likes of Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have all discovered. The suites are literally at the gates of Edinburgh castle with such opulence and grandeur it's hard to imagine a more romantic setting. Gothic reds, velvets, dramatic colours, antiques, quirky touches and bold use of colour abound.
At the gates of Edinburgh Castle, it doesn't get more dramatic or memorable than this. The city is laid out at your feet.
The seven suites are named The Library, Vestry, Inner Sanctum, Old Rectory, Sempill, Guardroom or Armoury and each is as over the top as the last. The velvets, plaids, cashmeres and beds the size of a small country - and my favourite bit, the roll-top baths big enough for two! Hidden rooms, oak panels, an emerald green sitting room, a tartan-lined study: each suite is different and this is the stuff of dreams.
It is an unforgettable magical experience!
The restaurant, The Witchery, is a destination in itself and is delightful. White linen, chandeliers and candlelight in a room older than the hills. The atmosphere is very special. Food is great too and wine is a particular strong point as James is a man who loves the good things in life.
Top class service.
James Bond, well...Pierce Brosnan anyway. Basically Hollywood A list and many other well known faces. Brides, romantics, seducers, the lucky few.
