Best for Escapists - Expert review of Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa
The Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh has a great reputation and well deserved. What this purpose-built hotel may lack in genuine Edinburgh character it more than makes up for by being a large scale, well run operation in a great location with some cracking extras. Extras like the inhouse restaurant and world class spa make it popular with residents as well as the well-heeled Edinburgh crowd.
The inhouse chef is talented and has a great team so you can expect excellent food during your stay.
The real selling point for me is One Spa, which has won endless awards and it's easy to see why: a vast pool, outside hot tub, steam rooms, saunas, chromium suites - I'm not sure what that means but I can tell you it feels good. Dark Zen-like treatment rooms and lovely Espa products make this the ideal place for those who like to be pampered. The spa café offers lovely healthy snacks, juices and coffees, which you can graze on whilst reading all the papers.
Lothian Road, a one minute walk from Princes Street and directly opposite the Usher Hall with great views of the castle.
Sophisticated Scottish, with plaids, crisp linens, dark wood floors and really great bathrooms. It is designed to feel Scottish without playing the tartan shortbread tin and haggis trick.
Good lounge bar area. Large leather winged chairs and sofas ideal for sipping a coffee in. The restaurant on ground level also offers good Sunday lunch carvery as well as the breakfast buffet.
Santini is an excellent Italian restaurant, which offers both bistro eating in a spacious glass area or a more formal linen table cloth fine dining option. In both cases fresh modern Italian cooking is the order of the day and booking is recommended.
The Grill Room offers good an array of food and excellent carvery and is popular with families.
One Spa offers everything you need to transform yourself from stressed, tired and grumpy, to serene, beautiful and at one with the world. The fluffy gowns, the slippers, the cherry wood floors, low lighting, new treatment rooms and excellent therapists make this a destination for spa lovers from around the world. The toasty hot tub looks out over the roofs of Edinburgh and to sit in here on a cold February day in your swimsuit is surreal and fantastic.
The gym is equipped with all the bells, whistles, pulleys and the sophisticated equipment you could want, with personal trainers available to help.
Though there are lots of treatment rooms try to book ahead they are busy and you will find out why. Swoon.
Great. Efficient, friendly, informed.
The girls on a spa break. Weekenders, party animals, sophisticated travellers, older travellers, families, really it suits everyone.
