Missoni's first foray into Europe...and it's a cracker.
Italian design heavyweights purpose-built this hotel so there is not a nook or cranny in here that wasn't designed and planned. All clean lines, clutter free and pristine: there is no mistaking Missoni's fashion credentials - light and airy, curves, with bold splashes of jewel bright colour and funky furniture throughout. Add to that the great bar and restaurant and you half expect to see Carrie and the girls in here – they'd love it.
The Missoni spa opens November 2010 - I will report back.
Location:
Great location in the hub of the the city. Literally on The Royal Mile with Edinburgh Castle, The Grassmarket, The Scottish Museum and a hundred bars and restaurants a moment's walk away. Buses and taxis pass by all the time and Waverley Train Station is a three minute drive; if you have got a car the concierge will park and retrieve it at a moment's notice.
Bedrooms:
There are 138 stylish rooms: bright, functional and well thought out. You get either great views of Arthurs Seat, or a local extinct volcano, or even the castle, so do request one of these rooms when booking. Dramatic use of colour, very comfy beds, great showers, fresh towels and toileties replenished every day; the mini bar even has fresh millk in it for your tea and coffee - why can't real life be like this?

Eating and drinking:
Cucina Restaurant has a good reputation locally and offers fresh modern Italian food.
Bar Missoni is a cool place to meet for cocktails with bright splashes of colour, a glamorous bar area and gorgeous staff - you might just stay in. Also note the young kilt-clad concierge who will put a smile on your face as you enter to peruse the cocktail list, even if you don't have a drink.
