The Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall may be the centre of new Dubai, the postcard-adorning centrepieces of several billions of dollars of investment. But the real heart of the city lies in Deira, a thriving and bustling hub across the charming Dubai creek. Looking out over the water sits the glass-fronted Hilton Dubai Creek, a smart, modern hotel that not only offers some great views, but houses the region’s only culinary outpost for one Mr Gordon Ramsay.
Location:
The Hilton Dubai Creek sits, as the name suggests, overlooking the creek, on the Deira side (the same side as the airport, but not as the Burj Khalifa, almost all of the malls and most of the beaches). However, it’s just near the Maktoum Bridge which will take you across in just a minute’s drive. The nearest beach is about 15-minutes drive away. The airport is about 10 minutes away.
Bedrooms:
The standard guests rooms aren’t the biggest in town, but are modern and well-designed, with dark grey carpets and bed linen offset by an large orange headboard. Large windows keep the room well lit, while offering good views.

Public areas:
The dark marble floored lobby area is cool and modern, with a glittery staircase leading upstairs to the hotel’s two main – and highly-regarded – restaurants.
Eating and drinking:
Dubai Hilton Creek is perhaps most famous in the city for being where Gordon Ramsay chose as the spot to enter the local gastro scene. Verre, on the mezzanine floor, may have lost its original charm since the likes of Gary Rhodes, Giorgio Locatelli and a horde of other celebrity chefs came mincing into town, but still has a loyal fanbase who return again and again for Ramsay’s French fare, particularly the – apparently incredible - pork belly. Over the way from Verre, the less glamorous Glasshouse has a popular Friday brunch serving one of the city’s best roasts and some excellent weekday deals.
Leisure facilities:
The rooftop bar and sundeck has some excellent panoramic views of the city. There’s also a fitness centre and health club with plenty of cardio equipment and weights.
Service:
Friendly and helpful. I've been told that it can get a little manic during breakfast.

Who stays there:
The hotel is popular with all manner of international travellers, but with its location some distance from a beach, probably not your usual sun-worshipper. Gordon Ramsay's Verre attracts guests throughout the week, while the Glasshouse can get quite rowdy during the Friday brunch with expat diners (and drinkers).
