Back when the term 'boutique hotel' was an unusual anomaly, Alta Bay was there. One of the first ultra smart guest houses of its kind with all the bells and whistles a jet-set crowd expects, it soon set a high standard for the others that would follow suit. Happily, standards remain high here and the private setting in leafy Higgovale, nestled under Table Mountain, is a boon for people who relish downtime but love being able to dip into beach time and city life too. The surroundings are unmistakeably glam but with a lovely, at-home edge and an inordinate attention to detail. From the weather report left in your room to the little chocolates on the pillow at turndown and the complimentary entrance to the local Virgin Active gym, you'll love it because it's clear they care.
