Expert review of Hotel Papillon
If you don’t mind a bit of a muscle-burning walk up Rózsadomb (Rose Hill), this is a cheerful choice. There’s a villa-style feel to the building, a garden in which to relax with a beer, a rooftop terrace with good city views, and a welcoming owner.
Rose Hill rises a short distance to the north of Castle Hill, on the Buda river bank, and the hotel is at the top – this isn’t one for those averse to a bit of exercise. Trams 4 and 6 going over to Pest run along the main road at the base of the hill; alternatively you can get the metro under the river from Batthyány tér, which is a short walk away.
The rooms are clean and well-kept, the walls painted white with blue carpet on the floor. There are 30 rooms (including some triples), and apartments (with kitchenettes) on the first floor. You’ll find a small TV, fridge and telephone in each room; apartments come with a parking space.
