Expert review of Best Western Premier Hotel Parlament

Well-located and slick contemporary hotel.

The Parlament is very well located, a few streets away from the Parliament building. It’s one of those hotels that focus hard on contemporary design – there’s a ‘boutiquey’ feel to it – although I find there’s something slightly 'plasticky' around the edges. Nevertheless, it’s comfortable and largely well-equipped (although, as so often with these sorts of hotels, there’s no restaurant).

Location:

In the city centre, a few streets away from the Parliament building (hence the name), and convenient for the Opera House and St Stephen’s Basilica.

Bedrooms:

The 65 air conditioned rooms are clean-lined and minimalist in style, with light oak laminate flooring and burgundy a signature colour (in patterning on the bedspreads, the glass shelf of the bathroom sink, etc). Some are on the tight side in size, but they are perfectly comfortable; among the facilities are free internet access and hairdryers.

Public areas:

There’s a hint of design hotel in the styling. There are illuminated art installations along the walls leading away from the narrow reception area, and the check-in desk itself is fronted by a panel of back-lit frosted glass. There are bright sofas to sit on. It’s very contemporary.

Eating and drinking:

There’s no restaurant, but the sleek breakfast room is set beneath a curving glass roof that makes it light and airy. The bar sits just off the lobby, and is similarly modern in feel. A nice touch is that tea, coffee and pastries are provided free of charge in the bar between 10am and 5pm daily.

Leisure facilities:

There’s a small wellness room with a round Jacuzzi and a Swedish sauna.

Service:

Staff wear blazers and shirts without ties - the approach is smartness without formality.
