Best for Families - Expert review of Seattle
In recent years, more and more of Brighton’s hotels and b&bs have made the switch from basic to boutique-chic, elbowing young families out in the process. The Seattle bucks the trend – it’s swish enough to appeal to discerning grown-ups, but kids are welcome too. Sadly, the rest of the marina doesn’t really cut it in the style stakes, but it’s a lively spot, and central Brighton is an easy bus ride away.
Brighton Marina is just over a mile and a half east of the city centre. It’s an odd hotchpotch – the marina itself, where waterfront restaurants and apartments overlook gleaming yachts bobbing in their berths, is ringed by ugly concrete storm defences, access roads, car parks and discount shops. The more appealing attractions include a cinema and fitness club.
The rooms are sleek, airy and modern, with a Scandinavian feel. There’s room to spread out, open a laptop or entertain the kids – activity kits are available on request, and the staff can also provide cots, sterilisers and Babytel monitoring. Some rooms have large French windows opening onto a balcony which lends itself to yacht-spotting.
Stylish and relaxed.
Hotel Seattle has a Sussex Breakfast Award for top-quality, locally-sourced produce. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, including a kids’ menu. The bar has a waterfront terrace which is a glorious spot for a sunset drink on a warm summer evening.
The service is relaxed, friendly and helpful.
Families, couples, business travellers and groups.
