Best for The Beach - Expert review of Bluesun Hotel Borak
Set in landscaped grounds planted with pine trees and lavender, on the promenade above the coast, this mid-range hotel occupies a modern three-storey white building, with a pool out front. There’s a hotel beach with watersports facilities, and guests have use of the Thalasso wellness centre at the Elaphusa sister-hotel.
Midway between the village of Bol and Zlatni Rat beach (a 10-minute walk to each), on the tree-lined coastal promenade.
There are 136 rooms and 48 suites. Rooms are in the main building, and suites in pavilions behind the hotel. Double rooms have a bathroom with bathtub and shower, good air conditioning, safe, satellite TV, mini-bar and comfortable but slightly dated décor. The suites also have a living room with sofa-bed (making them ideal for families with kids) and a balcony overlooking the pool or catching a glimpse of the sea through the pine trees.

The hotel centres on an outdoor pool in the paved forecourt, with sun beds and a pool bar. There are two big restaurants – one doing buffet from an open-plan kitchen so you can see the chefs at work, and one a la carte – plus the lovely Bolero cocktail bar set amid pine trees. There is free WiFi in the reception.
Surprisingly for such a big hotel, Borak gets lots of praise for its catering. The main hotel restaurant serves a good varied buffet-style breakfast and dinner (many guests are on half board) with a colourful selection of seasonal salads, meat and seafood dishes, and fresh fruit. The Beach Restaurant Borak serves lunch, all-day snacks, plus dinner with occasional live music. Bolero bar does cocktails with a sea view.
Out front there’s a big outdoor pool with sun beds and a poolside bar, plus fitness classes in high season. Across the promenade lies the hotel’s pebble beach, shaded by pine trees, with scuba diving, wind surfing and kite surfing facilities. There’s also a kids’ club and playground.
The staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. The hotel even offers free Croatian lessons for guests who want to learn some basic vocabulary.
