Comparing over 30 hotel providers:
Upon arrival at the resort we were checked into some very small, old and dark rooms overlooking a staff courtyard. After arguing with reception we were moved to new rooms with a sea view. However these rooms weren't much nicer. We discovered that the windows could easily be opened from the outside which left our possessions at a much larger security risk! As well as this our room had a strong smell of sulphur which we tracked down to be coming from a crack in the shower tray where water would sit and then be released when stepping into the shower, releasing a vile smell.
Hygiene at the resort was appalling and in the EU would not be deemed as legal! 12 out of the 13 people in our party came down with sickness & diarrhoea on our second day as well as 3 other groups we spoke to who were also staying at the resort! This resulted in us not being unable to enjoy our holiday as we weren't capable of leaving the resort. On return to the UK I was prescribed antibiotics to clear the sickness and diarrhoea. The food in the canteen(restaurant) was left uncovered in the heat with flies circling it and there were stray cats in the restaurant. There was nowhere at the entrance for guests to wash their hands! One day we witnessed a cleaner clean the toilet and head straight to making our beds without washing his hands!
Hygiene aside, the food in the canteen was very bland, not very fresh and repetitive. The most delicious meal we had whilst in the hospitality of Thomas Cook was the plane food!
The staff at the hotel were very rude and did not offer a 4 star service. We were often refused drinks at the bar (even bottles of water) and some of the staff harassed the girls in our group constantly asking us to go out with them every evening.
The facilities at the resort were also poor; The gym was not air-conditioned and much of the equipment was broken or missing. The tennis rackets were bent and missing strings. The staff on their break tried to push us off the courts so they could have a game, despite the fact we had booked it and borrowed the rackets!
It was very clear to us that our rep Andrew was not very fond of our hotel either as it was very hard to contact him and he joked about being moved to a better hotel! The story is same for many of the other guests we met and the reviews I have read on tripadvisor since being back in the UK.
The reasons I have listed above turned our trip (that was meant to be a celebration of finishing college) into a nightmare! I do not understand how you could possibly justify advertising such a place, let alone charging £640 per person for the horror.
