Value for money backpacker hostel in a buzzing part of Berlin.
The Circus is one of Berlin's best known and best run backpacker hostels. It has a good location, friendly staff and free walking tours leave from the front door. This was one of the first Berlin hostels I ever stayed in and is still one of my favourites.
Location:
Circus Hostel is located on the buzzing Rosenthaler Platz in Mitte, with plenty of drinking, shopping and dining opportunities nearby. It is on the underground line and close to bus and tram stops. The hostel also offers discount transit passes.
Bedrooms:
The hostel’s 85 rooms are a mix of dorms and private rooms, with or without private bathrooms. Penthouse apartments with full kitchens and city views are also available. Dorm rooms fit up to seven people and beds have reading lights, lockers and storage space; shared bathrooms are clean and plentiful. Private rooms are well-equipped with modern furniture but street-facing rooms get a lot of road noise, so ask for an inner room if possible. Complimentary wireless internet access is available throughout the hostel.

Public areas:
Reception has several comfortable sofas to lounge on and you can borrow books and bicycles and get information on the hostel’s free walking tours.
Eating and drinking:
An all-you-can-eat breakfast with plenty of options is available for €5. There is a bar/café which features occasional live music and DJ sets, along with karaoke on Saturdays. The bar has Happy Hour specials every evening and reception can provide you with discount passes for nearby cafes, bars and restaurants.
Leisure facilities:
There's a small fitness facility, as well as bicycle rental and free walking tours.
Service:
Staff are young, international and extremely cheerful and helpful; they are very good at providing information and advice.

Price advice:
There's no flexibility on prices though the hostel sees this consistency as a positive thing: Apart from New Years Eve, you pay the same price for your room all year round, regardless of when you make your booking. This mean they are slightly more expensive than the competition in the winter but much cheaper during high demand periods such as the summer months and during peak event times (festivals, Berlinale etc.).
