Style meets comfort in this sexy, centrally located hotel.
This hotel is as ultra-swanky as they come - a geniune boon for anyone seeking high end comfort, a stylish environment and a great, central location. For my money, it's one of the best hotels in the city all round.
Location:
The Mandala is located in the busy Potsdamer Platz, between the Sony and DaimlerChrysler buildings, and within walking distance of a whole host of major sights, including the Brandenburger Tor (Gate), Checkpoint Charlie and the Reichstag.
Bedrooms:
The 157 bedrooms and suites are spacious and light. The décor makes use of warm whites and beiges, wooden floors, and furnishings are minimalist but comfortable. All rooms are above the fifth floor and face either the quiet inner courtyard or offer panoramic views of the city and the Tiergarten Park - at this height, street noise is not a problem. If the budget can stretch that far, the 11th-floor “Top of the Town Penthouse” spans 200-square metres, with floor-to-ceiling windows on every side offering unobstructed city views. The penthouse has its own bar, open living space, dining area, separate bedroom with bathtub and whirlpool, and a workspace with an iMac computer and high-speed internet access.

Public areas:
The lobby has a calm, Zen-like atmosphere, with a mosaic water feature, candles, subdued lighting and bowls of dusky rose petals.
Eating and drinking:
The restaurant, Facil, holds a Michelin star and is accessed through a light-filled Japanese-style garden. The restaurant is intimate, with only 14 tables, and is situated on a fifth-floor terrace which has a retractable glass roof. Breakfast is served until noon during the weekend and until 10am on weekdays. On the first-floor, Qiu Lounge serves an exotic variety of cocktails and snacks and, although it gets busy in the evenings, the atmosphere is tranquil.
Leisure facilities:
The rooftop wellness centre offers excellent views of the city and features the luxurious ONO spa, which uses products by Kenzoki and Dermalogica.
Service:
Understated but friendly and helpful.
