Expert review of Lux 11 Berlin Mitte
A designer apartment hotel that blends style, practicality and a great location.
Interior designers Giuliana Salmaso and Claudio Silverstrin set to work on this Mitte building to create a space that's defiantly modern yet - to my mind - somehow very homey.
Location:
In Mitte, surrounded by galleries, restaurants and boutiques, the hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from Alexanderplatz and the Weinmeisterstraße underground station.
Bedrooms:
Lux 11 has 72 sleek, spacious and modern bedrooms with kitchenettes, washer/dryers and open-spaced modern bathrooms with rain-fall showers and Korres toiletries. Rooms are decorated in a white and cream colour scheme and feature honey-coloured wood furnishings. Most rooms have balconies that look out across the courtyard, and corner suites offer views of the Alexanderplatz TV Tower. The Lux rooms are chic enough for photographer Henrik Pfeifer to publish a book of photographs shot in one of them: Room 308.

Public areas:
Public areas are decorated in warm tones and make use of subtle lighting. There is an on-site boutique, Ulf Haines, which is run by a former Quartier 206 buyer. Guests of the Lux also get a discount at the adjacent Adidas store.
Eating and drinking:
The kitchen at onsite restaurant Luchs is run by Schwarze Rabe’s former head chef, Christian Khalat. Italian cuisine is prepared using produce sourced from small Italian suppliers, and Khalat avoids the use of unnecessary fats while preserving the nutritional content of the food he serves. Luchs Bar has a stylish cocktail list and a live DJ. It gets buzzy at weekends.
