High class design and excellent facilities right on Berlin's famous Potsdamer Platz.
I wasn't overly impressed with the plain looking exterior of the Grand Hyatt Berlin at first sight. But I was pleased to find it actually boasts a dynamic interior, highlights of which include a top floor fitness area and the esteemed Vox Restaurant. It has become one of Berlin's classic hotels, mixing five-star service with a full range of amenities and a good location. It's not cheap, but it is classy (inside).
Location:
The Grand Hyatt is situated next to Berlin's legendary Potsdamer Platz, whose landmark buildings include the Sony and DaimlerChrysler corporate headquarters. From here it's possible to reach central parts of the city such as Mitte, Schoeneberg and Kreuzberg with relative ease.
Bedrooms:
The Hyatt's 322 bedrooms feature large comfortable beds and fairly standardised but good quality furnishings. Extensive in-room amenities include Bang and Olufsen flat-screen televisions, Sony PlayStations, adaptors to connect your MP3 player to the television’s speakers, video on demand, and minibars. The marble and cherrywood bathrooms have rain-fall showers, Aveda products and their own televisions.

Public areas:
The lobby is the first indication that the hotel's interior is superior to its relatively nondescript exterior, with matte black colours and chic panelling, and inverted crystalline pyramids hanging from the ceiling. Bauhaus-era photographs and Art Deco furnishings adorn the corridors and other public areas.
Eating and drinking:
There are several eating options here, all of them good. Tapas-style dishes are served at mesa, while Tizian Lounge and Restaurant offers international cuisine and an extensive wine list. Vox Restaurant is the Don, featuring the city’s largest show kitchen, a sushi bar, a collection of over 230 whiskies, summer terrace, and live jazz and blues in the bar area. The food and service here are second to none.
Leisure facilities:
The spa and fitness centre is actually a big reason to stay here if you're into health - located on the hotel’s top floor, it provides panoramic views across the city. Facilities include a Finnish sauna, Turkish steam bath, whirlpool, sophisticated fitness equipment and a swimming pool. Spa services include massages, facials and wraps.
