Expert review of Jade International Youth Hotel Beijing
Don’t be put-off by the name; this place is essentially a full-featured budget hotel signed up to YHA China. Its strengths include a choice location a few hundred yards east of the Forbidden City, cheap-as-chips rooms with bathrooms, towels and a TV, and a pretty decent bar / restaurant. It’s huge too, so you shouldn’t have a problem snagging a room even in peak season.
In a large alley close to the west wall of the Forbidden City, and just northwest of Wangfujing. There are some attractive hutong alleyways worth exploring nearby, and a small local supermarket around the corner.
Spartan and functional, with cheap pine furnishings, a small LCD TV, tea and coffee facilities and a clean shower room with towels. Rooms on the higher floors have pretty decent views of the area.

Functional and clean, with a few armchairs in the narrow lobby, and free WiFi.
I was pleasantly surprised at the ornate decoration and style in the restaurant, which serves standard Chinese fare along with some Western favourites. Breakfast is a good deal for the price. The bar is a fairly comfortable hang-out, with a movie-viewing area, lots of sofas and table-football.
Tour booking, bike hire.
Fairly impersonal, but sufficient English skills for tour bookings and other enquiries.
